Why does the story of our environmental crisis not bring about widespread and immediate action for all?

The conversation about the environmental crisis is broken and the language we use isn’t working. It’s unpalatable, dismissive, divisive. To the point where we can’t talk about it at all. It’s too hard and too painful. We haven't figured out how to communicate the extent of the situation we're facing without being overwhelmed by fear.

As a result, our words have become numb and our actions slow. But we know that language can move mountains. The right words and images can educate and persuade. They can redraw borders, declare emergencies, and elect presidents. Words can change minds and move people into action - we just need to find the right ones.

Article 12

Paris Agreement

“Parties shall cooperate in taking measures, as appropriate, to enhance climate change education, training, public awareness, public participation and public access to information, recognizing the importance of these steps with respect to enhancing actions under this Agreement.”

Article 12 of the Paris Agreement is only four lines long but is arguably the most important one. But so far, we have failed to deliver on it. Maybe it’s because we just don’t know how. It’s the hardest communications brief yet to be cracked.

We do know what the science is telling us and we have the wherewithal to solve many of our problems. But if we aren’t able to build widespread agency and urgency, our efforts will be too little and too late.

Who we are

A group of professionals who've come together to help deliver Article 12 of the Paris Agreement through brand communications.

This is Agency is a non-profit organisation that brings together a wealth of experience and knowledge – from insight,  research, brand marketing, advertising, human psychology, deep ecology, systems theory, project delivery and change management. In reality, there are seven founding humans and you can read about them below.
